I want to support you on your journey to wholeness.

Lacey Atkins, LPCA

I began my journey to becoming a counselor in a youth group, where my passion to help people find healing in Christ was birthed. As I fell more in love with psychology in undergrad, the Lord showed me he could use the tool of psychotherapy to bring healing to hurt people.

I earned a Bachelors of Arts in Psychology from Lee University in Cleveland, TN and a Masters of Arts in Psychology - Clinical Counseling from The Citadel in Charleston, SC. I have been working with patients in various therapy settings since 2019. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate in South Carolina, license #8460. I am also a licensed minister in the Church of God, and have been serving youth since 2016.

I have experience working with children on the Autism Spectrum in an Applied Behavioral Analysis setting, Perinatal and Postpartum women at MUSC’s Women’s Reproductive Behavioral Health Center, and people across the lifespan facing challenges such as: stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, life transition, obsessions/compulsions, relationship issues, pregnancy, perinatal/postpartum concerns, spirituality including religious doubt and struggles in your relationship with God, personal development, grief, mania, same-sex attraction, addiction, and career counseling.

What is a holistic approach to counseling?

How do I approach Christian counseling?

In Christian faith-integrated counseling sessions, we will utilize the same evidence-based techniques utilized in a non-faith-based session in addition to considering what God’s design for your wholeness is and what it looks like practically in your life. This is offered through my foundation of biblical understanding, connecting scripture to the techniques we utilize in session, and exploring scripture and spiritual questions together.

Christian counseling sessions are based on the belief that Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life (John 14:6), the prince of peace (Isaiah 9:6), our healer (Matthew 9:35), and holds all authority and power (Matthew 28:18). I am a firm believer that ultimate and true soul healing comes from Jesus Christ, and psychotherapy is a tool he so graciously uses to bring us relief from the suffering of this world.

I hope to come along side you in your journey to restoring wholeness and peace in your life - mind, body, and spirit. My holistic approach means I look at every part of your story as connected rather than separate, unrelated parts. This can include thoughts, emotions, nutrition, physical health, trauma, spirituality, or other parts of your story. There can be many factors contributing to the way you are feeling right now, and I want to support you as we work through each of these factors together at your own pace.

We will use cognitive behavioral and mindfulness based techniques to target the mind-body connection. We will identify what is most important to you and your sense of wholeness, how to move towards that, and the barriers causing you to feel stuck. My office is a place of non-judgmental listening, empathy, and unconditional positive regard.
